Samsung SyncMaster 243T Widescreen TFT Monitor PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alex
Samsung SyncMaster 243TAfter I bought this beautiful piece of technology I discovered, that the current XFree 4.3 lacks integrated support for a resolution of 1920x1200. After fooling around I became a little depressed and started using the google-fu for hours. I came across some nice modeline pages and calculators, even tho, the pages were about other monitor devices and the calculators tried to tell me that it is impossible to drive a 1920x1200 resolution at 60Hz if your display device only supports a maximum dot clock of 165 MHz.

Shoot it but the manual of the 243t says:

VESA, 1920 x 1200, 74.556 kHz horizontal, 59.950 Hz vertical, 154.00 MHz pixel clock, Sync (H/V) +/-

So what I did was find me some tutorial on how to calculate this friggin modeline by hand (XFree Videotimings HOWTO) and start breeding. The VideoTimingsHowto helped a lot, and after lots of coffee and various failures I ended up with this modeline:

Modeline "1920x1200" 154 1920 1972 2028 2080 1200 1202 1208 1235 +hsync -vsync

Since I wasn't able to find *anyone* having bought the same monitor like I did, I hope this might help someone who does now and has the same trouble finding a suitable modeline to get his XFree over that annoying 1600x1200 border. Either way, the monitor is working fine now, no further problems and anyone who wants a big, flat, screen on his desk on his wall, this is the thing to go for.
